0 Moving! Windows to Linux!

   

    Hello, guys whoever read this post.
So, it's been a long time since i posted my last post. My pass was lost and i made a new email. But, today i'm successfully recover my pass, and at very beginning of 2015, i decide to back writing random blog stuffs.

    I'll tell you my experience.
I've been using windows since 2001, it was the first time i use computer (3 years old). The first OS i use was windows 2000. Last year, i feel my windows 7 computer going slow, i game most on it actually. I did "typical" ways to speed up windows, and it still super slow to boot. Hmm, ok, at that time i think it's the time to reinstall my windows 7.
   What a bad luck, i lost my win7 installation DVD! And yeah, i stuck with that slow system for a few days. Then, i'm browsing around, and find an article on the internet talk about Linux. Ah, that time i was not interested, why? simply because it look sucks : there's a "command prompt" things in the screenshots shown there, also there's something called "xfce" which is super bad-looking desktop in my opinion.
   OK, i ignored that article for a while. But... like a half hour later, my damn windows 7 hangs. And it forced my to shut it down and reboot, losing my school homework left unsaved. My feeling was angry, sad, etc etc! I don't expect a decent PC with intel sb i5 and 8gigs of ram will got HANG opening a single MS word! Of course i blame my windows 7!
    After that hang moment, i open back article i read, and see some linux version called "distro". I decided to downloads and install it to my computer, the first distro i download was Ubuntu 10.04 (which is not the latest version at that time). After got all installed, i bit surprised, it was easy to install (and of course it's blazing fast).
     Some days i get used to my Ubuntu system, i learned terminal - command prompt thing i thought it's sucks , actually terminal is cool! it's linux all-in-one tool that easy to use when you get used to it. Of course you need to learn some basics first before feel it's COOL! Oh well, who in the earth Windows typical user would use such command line thing like that, they'll stuck in GUI (which is less customisable) seriously you'll feel you're awesome learning and using it at the first time, it just feel like you're a superuser.
     Now, it's been like a year i'm using linux instead of windows as OS on my secondary PC. I use mac for school by the way, if my ssd space allows me to bootcamp, i also want to install linux on my mac, because i'm way more satisfacted using linux than mac os. Linux i've been use were Ubuntu series (Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu, Kubuntu), Linux Mint, Puppy Linux, other linuxes which i dont remember their name.
    Things those i like from linux : they're fast, super secure (as i read there're only 40s of viruses attacking Ubuntu), highly customisable, and stable! I don't need to talk about this too long, this is just awesome, you should try it yourself to see linux's awesomeness!
    One only thing i don't like about linux is the games, i am a mild gamer, i games on my windows, but on linux you just can't play games you game on windows - which is sucks. In the first days i use linux, i open my battlefield 2 .exe program, and undoubtedly it won't open normally, instead it ask me to choose program to open it. Of course, you can't run windows program in linux - for those who don't know yet. Luckily, still it support steam and there're a lot of linux gaming community out there. But, for now, i still rely on windows in case of gaming. I just hope, in next years, more popular linux-compatible games will come to this awesome OS.

0 Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw?

My teacher gave me task to make a vector self-cartoonization. So i decide to write this post to compare 2 major vector design software for windows. Because it will help people to decide which program should they use for their works. They're Adobe Illustrator (www.adobe.com/products/illustrator.html) and CorelDraw ( Corel.com ). This is pros and minus depend on people's opinion and some are mine.

Adobe Illustrator :
Pros :
- Better for professional editor
- Advanced features
- Adobe's leading brand
- Available for windows, mac os (cross platform)
- Industry standart
- Best effect
Minus :
- Interface isn't familiar with beginners
- Corel better used in making GIF or non complicated works
- Hardware requirements for new version

CorelDraw :
Pros :
- Friendly user interface (good for beginner)
- Good for making non-complicated works
- Compatibility with other products
- Run smoother
- Low hardware requirement
Minus :
- Effects isn't as good as adobe illustrator
- Not industry standart
- Not available for mac user

That's opinions i collected from people and my own experiences.

0 Inkscape - Open Source Vector Drawing

Sometimes, when someone moving/changing his/her platform from windows to mac/linux/unix based OS, they always(or sometimes) find problems, such as applications compatibility.
As what i did, my teacher gave me a task to make a Corel project, which only compatible with windows (i'm mac user). So, i'm trying to find an application that can help me do that task w/o parallel my mac or boot camp. I found inkscape, inkscape is a open-source SVG editing/creator software which is created for unix based and windows based computer. It works fine and i think i enjoy it more than corel. If we see from features, corel will highly surpass inkscape, yeah, but for easy use, i consider inkscape better, and also we won't be worried by breaking law since it's open-source software.

The limitation of the software in the AppStore usually make us annoying. Not only the price, but also the availability of necessary softwares. Some people like to pay, but if you want to more stuffs without limitation in AppStore, you can try Jailbreak your gadgets. Actually jailbreak is easy as simple as you copy files among devices. The supported devices are :


OK, the steps are :

1. Download Redsn0w [MAC/WINDOWS]
2. Connect your device to your PC/notebook (can be windows or macintosh).
3. Run Redsn0w, after the window is shown, click "jailbreak", then click "Cydia".
4. Wait, and your device will reboot automatically. After reboot, you shouldn't find anything change, except Cydia icon on your home screen.

0 AMD APUs : Run office applications fast!

Somedays ago i saw an article in AMD's blog. That article was written by Phil Hughes. He said that AMD APUs can deliver more performance for office applications such as web browser, microsoft office, winZIP, winRAR. He also say that AMD Radeon HD inside the APU itself can help or increase the performance of the applications. But, many users didn't realize that the graphics performance can help them speed-up productivity of the office. As he said in his article :

"The advent of accelerated applications that take advantage of the parallel compute capabilities within the APU's graphics processing unit (GPU) can help increase your productivity."

Some examples (general used applications) of productivity improvement are :

1. MS PowerPoint with GPU acceleration turned on can improve productivity up to 250%
2. WinZip with AMD App Acceleration, 2nd generation A-series based notebooks can accelerate compression of files up to 135% using winZip 16.5
3. All major web browsers (IE, firefox, google chrome) can render and perform faster with GPU acceleration

One the most interesting thing that i get from that article is AMD Eyefinity. 2nd generation AMD A series APU is supporting AMD Eyefinity, which only available in discrete graphic cards before. AMD A-series APU also allow you to make single surface across multiple monitors if you need a screen for your presentation.
